This weeks WWW features the Terry Gilliam creation The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus which is the last film Heath Ledger ever worked on prior to his tragic death which occurred whilst the film was still in production. For a film that could quite easily have never been, it has now been finished with the aid of fellow actors & companions Johnny Depp, Jude Law & Colin Farrell who stepped in to complete Heath’s role with all earnings for the role going to Heath’s daughter Matilda.
I suppose that it is strange that despite the focus of this film being squarely aimed at Heath ledger that I should choose a photo of Jude Law as he plays the role of Tony (2nd Transformation), but in another sense it could be quite fitting …read more

Time to call a spade a friggen shovel & face the truth (whilst probably upsetting a few people) - the history of wrestling games has not been a pretty one, relying too heavily on fandom & nostalgia to carry the game rather than good game play itself, for me, very few wrestling games have earned anything more than a hire & don’t buy rating.
Admittedly, I never thought that running around the squared circle reigning down pain with a 2×4 would get boring …read more

You may remember prior to Guitar Hero 5 being released that I voiced my own unease about the use of Kurt Cobain’s image as an un-lockable character in the (at the time) soon to be released game. I concluded the article still unsure if I was being overly sensitive or if we were entering territory which was best left untouched & ultimately left it up to you to decide for yourselves how you felt about the issue.
Now, so soon after the official release of the game, gamers & media alike have voiced their own opinions on the issue as exampled by MTV’s report on the responses of those closest to Kurt whilst he was still alive, ex-wife Courtney Love, Nirvana band mates Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic & friend & auther Everett True …read more

Pixar movie, Up, has been a massive hit in cinemas around the world. It’s a film that appeals to children and adults alike and I was very interested to see how the game measured up. Although I was expecting the game to be aimed at the younger members of the population, which didn’t really phase me, I was hoping that it would be a little more sophisticated.
The beginning of the game sees you thrown straight into a flying scene. Here you’re playing as Dug the loveable and loyal dog who talks. I found this an odd place to begin the game. There was no introduction, you’re just out there in a plane trying to shoot down other planes. After having worked through this part, the game proper begins, again without giving us much of a clue as to what has happened previous to this, or what the aim of the game is.
Okay, at this point I should let it be known that when I played the game I had not seen the film, but I don’t think that should have meant that I should have had to guess what had happened to instigate the adventure. For those who have seen the film or know the basic story-line, the main game begins once Carl and his Wilderness Explorer friend, Russell, have landed in South America and are endeavouring to walk to Paradise Falls, helium carried house in toe. Throughout the game you can play as Russell or Carl, in fact it is essential that you swap between the two characters in order to complete each level. This is a simple enough transition and doesn’t affect gameplay. A second player can also jump in and take on one of the character’s duties. …read more

When I emailed Trev to share this news, I believe my exact words were, ‘Garble, garble, heart attack, die!’
Finally the collective dreams of so many are about to come true as Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly) has announced a follow up to his cult-classic vlog series, ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’ which first aired online between July 15-20th 2008. The show immediately became such an underground phenomenon that within the first hour of airing the host site needed to undergo maintenance to cope with the number of people watching & re-watching Act 1. …read more

To coincide with the release of the much anticipate Where The Wild Things Are film this summer, Warner Brothers Games will also be releasing the game the film inspired. Many of you will have a soft spot for the Maurice Sendak classic picture book of the same name, so both the film and the game will have to live up to the hype surrounding them.
Back to the game: players will take on the role of young Max who teams up with the Wild Things to find safety from an island on the brink of destruction. During the game you will have the opportunity to learn new skills and abilities, solve puzzles, overcome obstacles while playing through a unique story line. …read more

War is hell.
In this modern age where words such as, ‘humanity’ & ‘teamwork’ have been replaced with ‘technology’ & ’synergies’, my workplace has undergone a restructure with whole teams being moved off-site & absorbed into other departments which has (for now) left my floor pretty much empty. So, faced with this little isle of peace, what do we do? We declare war! …read more

The tracklisting for the upcoming New Moon was recently released and it doesn’t look half bad. Last year’s Twilight soundtrack was okay with tracks from Muse and Iron & Wine and a bunch of very predictable inclusions (Paramore, Linkin Park etc), but the New Moon soundtrack actually looks uncomfortably good. Once again Muse are featured, along with Death Cab For Cutie, Thom Yorke and Sea Wolf. I’m not sure how I feel about bands and musicians who I consider credible getting involved with the Twilight Saga franchise, but considering I work in a bookshop, where a large percentage of our sales are from Twilight books and other related items, I’m probably going to have to listen to it a lot after its release and should just be grateful it’s not terrible! And no sign of a Rob Pattinson track either, which we can all be grateful for. …read more

Everyone has a list of things that they enjoy but still, would hesitate to admit that fact to their friends. Be it a band, movie or book. Everyone has their share of guilty pleasures, everyone.
I was overseas when I organised for a review copy of Ninja Blade to be sent out to us. It’s the first time in a while that I didn’t have a buzz about wanting to play a particular game, that may be because of the negative impressions I had gathered about Ninja Blade by reading various previews and so on… I would like to openly admit that I wrote Ninja Blade off as a shitty QTE (Quick Time Event) experiment before I even gave it a chance to convince me otherwise. I simply expected the game to fail. What I didn’t expect, though, was that I would encounter a game that was well put together, had fantastic production values and provides a campaign (although brief) of great, leave your brain at the door fun and would become one of my, guilty pleasures.
Read on to find out why you should give ninja blade a chance. …read more
