Micah P. Hinson grew up in Abilene, Texas and the southern influence is apparent in all of his work. His music is often described as indie rock, and I suppose that’s accurate in a sense but to me it’s always been very much country. Country in a good, folky way, not in a horrible county-pop way, à la Garth Brooks or Kenny Chesney.

Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress was released in 2004 and is Hinson’s first full length album. An EP, The Baby and the Satellite, was recorded earlier and after the success of his debut album, was re-recorded and released in 2005. Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress was recorded when Hinson was just 23 years old but this record feels like it comes from someone much older. This is due to his deep, often rough voice, to the mature, heart felt lyrics and to the sensitive and intricate arrangement of the music. This is a very grown-up album. …read more

Alan Wake Details Emerge

By Trevor March 30, 2009

I need to know more about this game, we all do. But information on actual gameplay is so rare that it really is making it hard to get excited about Alan Wake anymore.

Joystiq has posted a few rather small, but interesting details about how weather and lighting will affect gameplay in Alan Wake. …read more

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are an indie-pop four-piece band from New York who have recently released their first full length album, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. When I first played this self-titled record at home I was promptly told to “turn off that fucking Belle & Sebastian”. And fair enough, really. There are definitely elements of the Scottish band in their music – airy tunes with boy/girl vocals (not to mention their album cover art!). And on listening to this album their other influences are also very evident.

The songs on The Pains of Being Pure at Heart mostly short and sharp and to the point. They’re not self indulgent which is very refreshing. And while all of the songs are heavily influenced, some may say to the point of being derivative, they are individual in themselves. You don’t feel like you’re listening to one exceedingly long song, which happens so often, especially when a band thinks it’s on to a good thing. …read more

In 1996, Capcom released Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan) on the original Playstation console. Although Resident Evil wasn’t the first game to carry the “Survival Horror” label, it was the game that launched it into the mainstream.

Since the original Resident Evil, the series has spawned sequels, remakes and some rather ill-fated movies. …read more

Top Ten Movies Where The Bad Guys Win

By Adam March 28, 2009

I stumbled upon this doozy of an article on unrealitymag.com and I had to share it.

The article is titled: Top Ten Movies Where The Bad Guys Win. Nuff Said!

I love a movie where the bad guys win. It feels more real, and not like the typical “Good always wins in the end” crap that we’re forcefed in the movies.

I especially love a bad guy who’s so badass that we cheer for him, even when he’s doing some fucked up shit.

Hey folks, the rest of the team is away at Supernova today, so I’m here to hold down the fort.

Kotaku published a story on Dead Rising 2, a game I’m eagerly anticipating.

Speaking from the GDC (Games Developers Conference) in San Francisco, Izmeth Siddeek, from developers Blue Castle Games, reckons that “Dead Rising 2? deal[s] with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game. Everything else needed to be subordinated to this requirement”. …read more

It looks like the Future of the Left have finished recording their eagerly awaited second studio album. In 2007 the boys released the brilliant Curses, much to the delight of McLusky fans around the world. We’ll have to wait until late June for the release of the new album, The Hope that House Built. The album is 33 minutes in length and according to Falco “it’s fucking skill”. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to check out the band’s live album release, Last Night I Saved Her From Vampires, which was recorded at Cardiff Clwb Ifor Bach and London Water Rats in August 2008.
