This is in honor of the end of the 5 year run of Garth Ennis at the helm of my favorite character of all time. The Punisher. When Ennis took over the series, he took things on a much needed more realistic tone. Here was born the Max Series of The Punisher.
Gone is the non ageing hero (common place in Marvel Comics) This version of Frank Castle, is in his sixties having been active for over 30 years. Gone are the cameos from other superheroes, although some non powered characters do make appearances.
Microchip & Nick Fury, make notable appearances.
This Punisher exists in the a more conventional world. Where older more traditional Punisher stories remained within the U.S and involved antagonists and settings of conventional domestic crime, stories of the MAX Punisher often focus on current events, ranging from corporate fraud to sexual slavery. Many characters are past or current intelligence and military operatives from governmental agencies like the CIA, KGB & the SAS, militaries and militias from the Balkans and Middle East, also including the IRA, all with agendas rooted in past conflicts like the Cold War or the Yugoslav wars.
It began with issue #1 titled: In The Beginning and finished with issue #60 titled Valley Forge, which delves into Franks Service in Vietnam.
Pure fucking awesomeness. Read This or you will be punished…
See ya next time…
